Beer Review: OTTER CREEK / LAWSON’S FINEST LIQUIDS DOUBLE DOSE IPA

Beer Review: OTTER CREEK / LAWSON’S FINEST LIQUIDS DOUBLE DOSE IPA

The liquid poured into the goblet presents itself with a hazy amber-orange hue, crowned by a beige film for a head. While the appearance is satisfactory, it doesn’t particularly stand out within the expansive spectrum of craft beer aesthetics.

Aroma

Upon bringing the goblet to the nose, the olfactory experience begins with a touch of feline essence, accompanied by notes of tangerine and a hint of soaked caramel malt reminiscent of a stroll through the bulk item section at Whole Foods Market. The aroma, though not unpleasant, lacks the sophistication one might anticipate from a collaborative effort of this caliber.

Taste

The flavor profile unfolds with a commendable amalgamation of pine and grapefruit hop notes, complemented by toasty malt undertones. While the taste journey is pleasant, it falls short of delivering the extraordinary or memorable, presenting a solid yet somewhat conventional experience. The long, clean bitter finish adds a respectable closure to the tasting experience.

Mouthfeel

In terms of mouthfeel, the Double Dose IPA registers as full-bodied, featuring a slightly astringent quality and maintaining an average level of carbonation. While it achieves a balance, it doesn’t offer any exceptional or distinctive textural elements that would elevate the drinking experience to a higher echelon.

Overall

Having immersed myself in the Double Dose IPA, I find it to be an enjoyable beer overall. The prejudice against East Coast IPAs and Double IPAs is rightfully a relic of the past, as this collaboration demonstrates a commendable effort in crafting a palatable brew. The packaging, incorporating a touch of humor with marijuana references, adds a layer of uniqueness, albeit without transcending the boundaries of traditional beer presentation. In essence, while the Double Dose IPA may not redefine the genre, it unquestionably contributes to the ever-expanding landscape of craft beer. Cheers to a well-crafted beverage that balances tradition and innovation with a touch of camaraderie and enjoyment.
