Jester King Mikkeller Whiskey Barrel Rodeo

Jester King and Mikkeller join forces to present the Whiskey Barrel Rodeo, a potent barrel-aged concoction boasting a 12.0% ABV. This variant stems from the original collaboration, Jester King / Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo, an unfiltered, unpasteurized Imperial Oatmeal Stout featuring chipotle peppers, smoked malt, and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak Coffee, all fermented with farmhouse yeast. The brewing commenced at Jester King in November of 2011, with the subsequent six-month aging process in whiskey barrels and an additional three months of bottle conditioning.

Appearance

The pour reveals a dark brown elixir crowned with a delightful, fluffy tan head.

Aroma

Immerse yourself in a sensory journey with notes of smokey roasted malt, bourbon, graham cracker, and an intriguing touch of old dusty books. Chocolate undertones enhance the olfactory experience.

Taste

The flavor profile unfolds layers of dark roasted coffee, intertwined with the sweet and spicy embrace of bourbon. The spicy, smokey peppers add a distinctive kick, leading to a woody, boozy finish.

Mouthfeel

Feel the warmth emanating from the peppers and bourbon, complemented by lively carbonation that adds a refreshing dimension.

Overall Impression

This rendition of Whiskey Barrel Rodeo earns high marks for achieving a harmonious balance among its core elements of roast, coffee, booze, and peppers. Each component plays its role without overstepping boundaries, resulting in a fantastic overall experience. While not mandatory, elevating the experience with dark chocolate or a well-paired cigar is strongly recommended. The craftsmanship exhibited in this imperial stout is a testament to Jester King Craft Brewery’s commitment to quality and innovation.
